NGU's 1st Relay for Life

March 27, 2009 was NGU's first ever Relay for Life. It was raining uncontrolably, so we had to have the event in the cafeteria. We had many bands come and play and all the teams set up amazing tables with crafts, cookies, drinks, popcorn, t-shirts, and much more! There were magic shows, games and races, an area to walk laps, a bouncy, a balloon fighting game, and some touching stories were shared. I shared my testimony before the luminay service and sang "Hiding Place," by Selah, with my best friend, Noelle Howard. The luminary service was very speical to everyone. There were bags with names of survivors, those who have passed away from cancer, and those still battling with cancer. We all walked a lap together accompanied by the playing of bag pipes by one of our professors. It was a great moment to be together with everyone as a school family fighting against cancer! As I mentioned before, there was an area for fighting in a balloon box. The pictures above show that I fought my boyfriend, Robert and my two palmetto princesses, Sarah Kate and Ashley. I looked at the game and thought it couldn't get that rough, but I actually cut my chin and was bleeding! haha It was kind of cool to be wearing my crown with a battle wound as well! haha It was such an amazing night! There was also a Miss Relay for Life pageant, held the weekend before, that raised money for RFL. I emceed and sang at both the little girls and the Miss girls RFL pageants. NGU did an amazing job organizing everything and I want to thank everyone who joined!

Camp Creek Baptist Church Tea Party

This was such a fun day! I sang and spoke to the little girls of Camp Creek Baptist Church at their Tea Party. The cakes were amazing! They were actually teacups and teapots...It was sad to have to cut them up, but eating them wasn't so bad! haha Every single little girl was precious! I signed pictures for each little girl, so my hand got pretty tired! While I was signing autographs, this one little girl came up and started scratching my back. It was so sweet and actually, getting my back scratched is one of my favorite things!

Appearing on WGGS

I am continuously amazed at how many opportunities the crown brings me! I was able to appear on WGGS to sing and be interviewed. I sang "How Great Thou Art" and I interviewed for about 20 minutes. I shared my testimony, some stories thus far from my reign as Miss NGU, I spoke about North Greenville University and what is has to offer students, as well as, my scholarship ministry of Joyful Sound! I also spoke on many other issues, such as my major, Elementary Education and the call on my heart to teach. It was so much fun and I am excited to now be interviewed by Peggy Denny, also on WGGS, in a few weeks. I will post the date soon and I hope you all will be able to tune in!

WLFJ with Dr. Tony Beam

Dr. Tony Beam interviewed me on his morning radio show on WLFJ. I have known Dr. Beam for a few years from Joyful Sound and from his help to the students around campus. Dr. Beam interviewed me about my platform, the Miss SC pageant, NGU, and Joyful Sound. I have so much fun and can actually admit that if teaching does not work out, I would love to be a radio host! haha Just kidding, it was fun, but I know the Lord has placed my heart in teaching for a reason, so for now, I will remain a listener, but who knows what the future holds! :)

Singing at Summit Hills Assisted Living

At Summit Hills Assisted Living, they do birthday parties by the month. So everyone with a January birthday came to the party today. It was so cute...they had cake and cookies with some drinks. We sang Happy Birthday all together and they residents sang "Happy Birthday to ME!" HAHA I sang some hymns and my sweet boyfriend Robert played to guitar for me. They had many questions for me about North Greenville and going to Miss South Carolina. It was nice to know they were interested in what I was doing. I can't finish this blog without telling a few funny things they said. First, I asked this one lady what she would like to drink and she said, "well nothin ya got here...that's for sure!" haha I was cracked up at this little fiesty lady. After that, when I was speaking, this one lady started talking about the vice president and then asked me if I was the president. I felt bad that she was confused, but it's hard not to get tickled at times. And finally, I gave each of them one of my autographed cards for Miss NGU and he said "Can I tell my wife you're my girlfriend?" haha They were so sweet and it was a little scary how much I fit in with the elderly! ha ;)

Awake With Drake 103.3

My sweet Aunt set up an interview session for me with her friend, Mr. Bill Drake. Bill Drake has been in the radio business for over 30 years. It was so much fun interviewing with Mr. Drake. I was on the radio for two segments, the first lasting about 25 minutes and the second session was about 15 minutes. He interviewed me on my platform, about NGU, he asked me questions about my childhood, politics and our new President, and much more. It was really exciting and fun. Thank you to my Aunt Pam for helping me, my Dad for going with me, and Mr. Bill Drake for allowing me to be on his show!

Childrens Miracle Network

Wow...I haven't blogged in a while. Things got so busy with Christmas and then New Years, but don't worry I am still working hard towards my goal to be Miss South Carolina! The Children's Miracle Network is the Miss America Organization's national platform. We are asked to raised $250.00 each for the Children's Miracle Network during our year of reign. I have learned so much about this organization and have really come to love what they do. The CMN treats 17 million children a year for various diseases and injuries. There are 170 hospitals affiliated with the CMN and Greenville is one of them! If possible, I would greatly appriciate your donations to help me reach my goal and also to make a difference in the life of a child. The link to donate on account of Miss NGU is http://www.missamerica4kids.org/m.aspx?i=932157BAC9CE64 Thank you for everyone who has already donated and will donate in the future!
